Demystifying the AMA Guides
WorkCompSchool and its newest training partner, Parthenia Medical Group, are proud to present this 1-day conference.
Bruce Hector, M.D., the California Medical Association's liaison to the California Senate Committee on Health and Safety in Workers' Compensation as the "guru" on the AMA Guides 5th Edition, will lead students through a comprehensive discussion on the Spine, Pain, and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Tom Hascall, M.D., will lead students through an informative and enlightening discussion of heart and hypertension. Dr. Hector and Dr. Hascall will help educate attendees on the intricacies of working with the Guides, provide students with tricks of the trade as well as other vital information workers' compensation professionals need to know to effectively use the AMA Guides 5th Edition. Each segment of this must-attend conference will be followed by a lively Q&A session. The attendees will also participate in several "real life" case examples so they can turn their educational knowledge into practical application.
Spine: During the Spinal lecture, Dr. Hector will review specific Guides phrases and paragraphs with particular emphasis on DRE or ROM rating methods, will cover how to assess the accuracy and quality of reports.
Pain: The controversial Chapter 18: Pain, in the AMA Guides is cause for much confusion and mistake. Dr. Hector will expertly lead students through a comprehensive discussion of the Pain chapter, excluding Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, focusing on specific conditions warranting a pain rating according to the Guides, various pain rating methods, and the criteria to exclude ratings under Chapter 18. Complex Regional Pain Syndrome will be offered in a future seminar.
Heart: The heart lecture will cover an important discussion of assessment and rating of heart related conditions and hypertension including necessary testing.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Next to the spine, CTS is responsible for a majority of workers' compensation claims. This lecture will cover common uses and abuses of this injury as well as several case examples. Lateral Epicondylitis will be discussed.
Who Should Attend: This conference is a MUST-ATTEND for anyone who needs to understand and use the AMA Guides 5th Edition in their daily caseloads. This conference is particularly relevant for Claims Professionals and Attorneys.
